Roy P Awbery produces original fine art paintings in acrylic and water colours across a variety of different genres - life’s too short to be pigeon-holed!
Commission enquiries are always welcomed.
Enrapture - textured abstract painting
Enrapture was created with acrylic paints blended with PVA, plaster and moulding paste and finished with gold and silver particles.
The textures suggest lowlands towards the sides and slowly building up to higher peaks of ochre in the centre.
The painting is 1.5 x 1.0 metres and was specifically commissioned to blend in with the clients home.
Gemini - in Space and Time - Original abstract wall art on canvas
Gemini - in Space and Time
Oil painting on canvas
Included metal particles and metal cogs and dials
Size: 90 x 60cm
Subject: Abstract
Original artwork description
The brief was to hint at the owner’s background in engineering as well as her favourite star sign.
The Gemini constellation is set against an ethereal galaxy, which itself was built up in layers with an embossed pattern over the surface depicting machine cogs. The constellation points are created from brass cogs with metal particle glitter used to join them.
A Winters Tale - Original snowy landscape painting on canvas
A Winter’s Tale
Acrylic painting on canvas
Size: 150 x 50cm
Subject: Landscape/Wildlife
Original artwork description
A Winters Tale brief was to create a snowy landscape with the Gemini constellation overhead because it was the star sign of the client’s father and had to include two wolves hunting an elk. Although the scene is desolate this keeps the eye on the main action of the animals. The elk’s posture is both defensive and shows it is prepared to attack and I have managed to capture a sense of movement in the wolves without needing to show an attack in progress.
Desolate Beauty - Original snowy mountain art on canvas
Desolate Beauty
Acrylic painting on canvas
One of a kind artwork
Size: 4.5ft x 2ft acrylic on box canvas
Subject: Landscape
Original artwork description
This was the largest commissioned work I had painted up until 2022 and the brief was to include a snowscape with mountains, a water feature and a subtle interpretation of the Northern lights. The stream was introduced in such a way that it leads the eye along the scene and out into the distant mountains.
Large Woodland Stream - Landscape painting
Large Woodland Stream
Acrylic painting on canvas
One of a kind artwork
Size: 16 x 20-inch acrylic on canvas
Subject: Landscape
Original artwork description
This painting was commissioned after the client saw the Small Woodland Stream but wanted specific colours in the foliage. The final commission was delivered framed in a silver baroque surround.
Small Woodland Stream - landscape painting
Small Woodland Stream
Acrylic painting on canvas
Size: 9 x 11-inch acrylic on canvas
Subject: Landscape
Original artwork description
This was my first commission for a dear friend and was my first attempt at a more complex landscape. The trick to getting the sky and reflections right was in the blending. I love painting trees and enjoyed adding the detailed leaves to this piece.
Dangermouse - Pet portrait painting
Dangermouse
Acrylic painting on canvas
One of a kind artwork
Size:9 x 11-inch acrylic on box canvas
Subject: Animal portrait
Original artwork description
Dangermouse was my first ever portrait of any animal and also my first commission. It was a major challenge! The original image had the cat resting across the client’s legs but this didn’t really work so the abstract cushion was created to contrast with the cat. A lot of acrylic paint, in layers, was lifted with a knife to give a three-dimensional effect to the cushion.
Mika - pet portrait painting
Mika
Oil painting on canvas
Size: 9 x 11-inch acrylic on box canvas
Subject: Animal portrait
Original artwork description
Mika was my first dog portrait and was challenging due to the requirement to capture the whole dog. The challenge was even greater when understanding that I had to capture the unusual feet and also capture the correct likeness. Careful layering of the oils was key to working on this.
Tilly - Pet portrait painting
Tilly
Oil painting on canvas
One of a kind artwork
Size: 9 x 11-inch acrylic on box canvas
Subject: Animal portrait
Original artwork description
Tilly was created to capture the brightness in the eyes of this much-loved pet cat. The brush strokes proved incredibly challenging to get right because the client wanted to see the detail in the fur and whiskers. It is amazing how useful an old brush can be!
Milo-pet portrait painting
Milo
Oil painting on canvas
One of a kind artwork
Size: 9 x 11-inch acrylic on canvas
Subject: Animal portrait
Original artwork description
Milo was a challenge set to me by a friend who wanted to see how well I could recreate their pet cat. Brush strokes were the key to getting this right and recognising that this cat was not entirely black or entirely white.
Carbon - Original abstract wall art on canvas
Carbon - The Elements
Acrylic painting on canvas
One of a kind artwork
Size: 16 x 22-inch
Subject: Abstract
Original artwork description
I have been producing an ongoing series of paintings in acrylic inspired by and named after the periodic table of the chemical elements. I had not created Carbon yet when a client asked for a similar design to the others in the series but wanted very specific colours blended into it. I’m pleased to say they were happy with the result and it now lives on the Isle of Wight.
