Commissions don’t have to be large!
Many of my customers and returning clients commission me to paint unique and bespoke paintings for them (see below for some examples). My aim is to take the fear and uncertainty out of the commissioning process and give you a thoroughly fun and enjoyable experience. I never sell prints of my artworks so you can be sure that your commissioned painting will be one-of-a-kind. I am happy to discuss taking on a variety of subjects but I will also be honest with you if I think your request would be better fulfilled elsewhere (it’s always good to know one’s limits!).
But why should you commission a painting?
Quite simply, because you want something no one else has and you may want to invest in artwork. My prices, and therefore the intrinsic value, of my paintings have steadily climbed, and as I sell more and gain more commissions, so the prices inevitably go up.

A unique and bespoke painting can be yours and it won’t break the bank and will make a great investment.
I’m always happy to create a painting in a similar style to something you have seen before but, partly due to the spontaneous nature of painting, it is not possible to make a copy of any artwork. Equally, I deliberately choose not to repeat the same painting twice. This is my unique selling point - I want you to have something unique and special. Feel free to send me some pictures and I’ll be glad to create an interpretation. Contact me to chat about commissions.
Not all of my commissioned paintings are viewable on my website. Some clients prefer their paintings to be entirely private and ask me to not show them on social media or on the website. This is absolutely fine and if that is your preference just let me know - it’s your painting after all.
I like to keep prices down as much as possible and to this end, I often paint commissions on standard-sized canvases. Sometimes though, this won’t work for you or you’ll want a very large canvas or an unusual shape to fit a space. I can work with you to understand your requirements and I work with several canvas producers who can create exactly the size and shape you want. You should be aware that the cost of bespoke canvases can significantly push the price up.
I will work with you to develop a colour palette that matches your decor.
Most people tend to look for artwork to complement their home decor and want an original painting that has colours that match or pick out certain colours in a room. This part of the process can be fun and I will work with you to develop paint swatches on canvas so that you can see what the colour will look like when painted. I will continue producing colour swatches until you’re completely happy with the palette that I will use.
I want all of my customers and clients to feel that owning a commissioned artwork is affordable but also feels like a sound investment. To this end, I use a simple pricing tariff for commissions, based on canvas size. The prices include free packaging and delivery for an unframed canvas. If you want your artwork framed I can arrange this for you at an additional cost.

All paintings created on a commission basis are non-refundable and non-returnable. After discussing your requirements a formal estimate will be sent to you for acceptance (prices will be based on the tariff above and may include optional extras such as framing). Your estimate will be guaranteed so you know the price will not unexpectedly increase.
No deposit is required for commissions below £500 but a 20% non-refundable deposit will be required to cover material costs for all commissions over £500. If you cancel or decide not to purchase a completed commission a charge of 25% of the outstanding balance (if a deposit was paid) will be required to cover time and costs.
Copyright: As the artist I assert my moral right to be identified as the originator and owner of the copyright for every original painting I create. I do not permit copies of my artwork to be made or distributed without my prior permission. Purchasing one of my paintings does not transfer copyright ownership.
